Virtual Consultations
We help thousands of families each year through virtual consultations. We meet virtually with patients for prenatal visits, while they are in the hospital or birth center following delivery, and for every challenge throughout the postpartum period. Each session is conducted in a HIPAA-compliant video conference portal where you will meet 1-on-1 with an experienced International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
Schedule your appointment today for immediate support.
Virtual consultations are fully covered by most major health insurance plans.
Meet 1-on-1 with an expert IBCLC to address all of your feeding challenges.
Comprehensive written care plan provided following each appointment.
Feel free to invite a partner or other support person to join your session.
In-Home Consultations
(Chicago, St. Louis & Surrounding Area)
Our roots, and many of our IBCLCs, are in the greater Chicago and St. Louis areas. For In-Home Consultations, one of our IBCLCs will visit you in your home to conduct your consultation. Due to demand, we strongly recommend starting with a Virtual Consultation (so that we can get you on a care plan within 24 hours - and because most every challenge can be addressed virtually) and then we will schedule an In-Home Consultation if and as needed.
Consultation Types
Prenatal Vists
We recommend a prenatal consultation for everyone, even if it’s not your first pregnancy. During your prenatal consultation, we discuss the last weeks of pregnancy and the most important things to set you up for success during the first hours and days postpartum. Following the prenatal consultation, you will receive a customized care plan to follow after the birth of your child. We recommend scheduling your prenatal consultation for when you are 34-36 weeks gestation.
Immediate Post-Birth Visits
Most families find it beneficial to consult with an IBCLC within the first 48 hours following birth. We meet via telehealth while you are still in the hospital, at the birth center, or in the comfort of your home. We will address any challenges and provide reassurance. We recommend that you alert us as soon as your baby arrives and we can get you scheduled. You and your OB/Midwife/Pediatrician will receive a written care plan for collaborative care.
Post-Partum Visits
Most families experience challenges throughout their postpartum feeding journeys. During your postpartum visit, we will review your birth experience, the parent’s and baby’s health history, and the challenges you are facing. We will create a care plan to set you and your baby up for success. A written care plan will be emailed to you following each appointment to refer to along your journey. It is best to reach out and schedule an appointment as soon as you encounter a challenge.
Back-to-Work Visits
Families often face challenges when the lactating parent returns to work. We work with families to prepare for this change and ensure that the baby and lactating parent can continue to thrive. We will create a plan that is unique to your situation, whether it involves a nanny or daycare taking care of the baby, the lactating parent traveling for work or working from home, or any situation. We recommend scheduling your appointment 4 weeks before returning to work.
Solid Foods Introduction
Most organizations recommend exclusive breastmilk or formula feeding for the first 6 months of a baby’s life. We commonly provide consultations to help families prepare for the introduction of and transition to solid foods. We recommend that you schedule your appointment to prepare for the introduction of solid foods around 5 to 5 1/2 months postpartum.
Weaning
The time eventually comes for your baby or toddler to wean from breastmilk. This can be a big change for your body and for your child, so it is important to take the necessary steps to prevent inflammation, infection, and other challenges. During this session, we will discuss your current feeding situation and develop a weaning plan that is right for you and your family.
